The Book of Songs
by Heinrich Heine, 1903
The book measures 7 5/8" x 5 3/4"
and has 116 pages. The body of the text is set in Old Style Antiqua. The regular
edition, seen above, was bound in suede and printed in two colors on Boxmoor
paper. The introduction is by Theopile Gautier. The limited edition of
100 was printed on Japan Vellum and bound in 3/4 leather. Some of the
limited edition were bound 3/4 in German marbled calf. There is also an edition
that was bound in paper over boards with a suede spine and printed in two colors
on Boxmoor paper which is a variant not listed in McKenna.
The book in a limited
edition 3/4 Levant binding printed on Japan vellum was listed in the 1903
catalog and sold for $10.00
