As You Like It
by William Shakespeare, 1903
#43 of 100
Note: Reptile skins (I believe this is alligator) were rarely used for bindings – usually only on commission or for presentations. This book was presented to Alice Hiles, a popular employee at the Roycroft.
The book measures 10 1/2" x 8 1/8" and has 122 pages. The body of the text is Bruce Roman. The limited edition of 100 depicted above was printed on Imperial Japan Vellum, bound 3/4 Levant and specially illuminated. Some of the 100 were also bound in 3/4 tooled leather according to McKenna. The regular edition was bound in paper over boards with a suede spine or in an Alicia binding and printed on Roycroft handmade paper. The press work was by Otto Franz and the borders and designs were by Samuel Warner.
